This is the big one. And I do mean THE BIG ONE! This is our weekend - adults only:
No dogs! No sprogs!
Set off Friday morning, having been slowly packing the van all week...and set off at a nice leisurely pace along the M6, then the M1, then into a bit of traffic. So we had to cheer ourselves up and go past it all!!
With the journey there taken care of, we're in a small queue just outside Irchester when Nick remembers there's another way in - so a quick nip around some country lanes and we're in! Whoop!
It takes us approximately 10 mins to set up and we're sitting outside in the dubious looking sunshine drinking :D
We went for a short meander around the show, and it was around this time there were reports of people with advanced tickets being turned away. Such a shame they were overwhelmed - depending upon who you listen to there were between 70,000 and 85,000 people at santa pod which meant they had to turn people away...bad times. Our meandering was cut short by the torrential rain downpour - fortunately we were at the far end, near fuellers bar and the undercover area, so we had to have a drink and a wait for the shower to pass.
It eventually did stop pouring and we made it back to the van for a dry off and another few drinky-poos. Since it was a miserable afternoon we broke out the wet-break toys and found the rude origami! Nick had loads of fun trying to make a paper cock. It didn't go well so he had to stick with humping pigs! As you can see, the view from the camper was still gloomy and grey... but Lee seemed to be struggling to drink his brew and watch the paper penis making XD

Having enjoyed rather a lot of drinking we don't have many pictures from this point onwards! Still, we ventured out again later, drinks in hand, and got caught in another massive shower, again, while we were near fuellers bar, so we sheltered inside and waited for it to subside. It didn't. So it's off back to the camper for another dry off and get ready to watch The Farm.
Didn't go and watch the farm, got drinking and chatting (and more importantly DRY!!) so we stayed put. Apparently they were good...
Saturday dawned bright and clear, but had clouded over by the time breakfast was finished! Still the rain kept off but it was much cooler. That was fine because that meant the racing was on. It also meant I got stung by a bloody wasp on the way to the bank, still, better me than Marv! We took out mountain Dew which was being handed out at every corner and sat on the bank...alas there were one or two casualties of the racing :(

Almost forgot - Saturday was jo's Birthday so we had Bucks Fizz with breakfast and cake for afters! Such decadence. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JO!! x
| Milton Jones was playing the comedy tent at around 3pm, and we really wanted to see him, so we headed back to the van, quick deposit of recently purchased items, then out to brave said comedy tent. They were queuing out of the door when we arrived. So we pushed through (politely, of course!), and found an ideal spot of concrete to sit ourselves down on. Mike Gunn was about halfway through and we watched him finishing up. He was fantastic. Milton Jones was just as good as we'd hoped, and had a rather unique way of dealing with hecklers!! |
Back to the bank for the end of the racing then we picked up some tea on the way back (Mmmm...pizza) a quick change at the van and we're off to enjoy the evening's entertainment (ie funfair!)
Nick and Fish got a little competitive at the air gun range - but the result was that Amelia has a fluffy new bunny rabbit for her collection! :D Moving onto the crossbow range din't yield quite such good results, and Nick promised that if he couldn't win with his first five bolts he would shoot the stuffed monkey in the face. There is a video lurking about somewhere of a stuffed monkey being shot in the face with a crossbow bolt!
While meandering around the funfair the firework display was set off, which was lovely - I love fireworks, me!
Then it was time for the wonderstuff - excellent! spent most of their set vaguely recognising the songs they were playing. They made a bit of a faux pas in that they played size of a cow in the middle of their set and lost about half their audience who clearly only knew one song! They even did an X-ray spex cover. Balders was a very happy man. By this time it was getting late (when you've been drinking all day!), and me and Marv were ready to head back.
Sunday also dawned bright and sunny - and it stayed bright and sunny!! We moseyed on over to the bank, settle ourselves down and enjoyed a full day of racing. When the lunch break came we headed over the bank to watch the stunt show with the Jet powered beetle.
I crisped myself in the sunshine for most of the day, I don't think anyone really wanted to head off and end the weekend. Jo popped a fruit Mento into Lee's bellybutton which caused minor hilarity and made me remember the camera...
There was the usual devastation of items left behind as we were getting ready to go - apparently someone found a whole gas powered barbeque, still in the box with all the accessories, but it's always better on the club camping side than on the general camping side! At least there were no 3 piece suites left behind!
*sigh* So that's Bug Jam done for another year...have to start getting ready for the next one now :D
